Imperia is in a magnificent position, in a mild and windy weather zone, ideal for sailing also during winter. Imperia is a town with a strong sea tradition and owes its name to the river Impero, that separates Oneglia from Porto Maurizio, which once were rival villages but are today merged in a sole municipality.

Porto Maurizio, clung to the Parasio promontory, already in the Middle Ages a vital economic and trade center, owned by the Benedictine monks, was in the past a free commune.

Historic centre of Imperia with beach Porto Maurzio is probably a Roman history while Oneglia was a Doria Family property and then a Duke of Savoia principal port on the sea. It is a modern port, commercial and industrial center in the Sunset Riviera, crossed by the river Impero and one of the sun-bathing resort of Liguria.

Porto Maurizio contains Liguria's largest church, the 'Duomo di San Maurizio' as well as the ancient convent of 'Santa Chiara' on the old walls bordering the sea. The church always knew a prime bit of real estate when it sees one and the views from here are stupendous. Nearby is the 'Golden Beach' at 'Borgo Marina' named after the color of the sand.
