 A
rustico in Western Liguria
which
owns its moderate climate to its special geographical position. It is
a natural amphitheatre facing south and shielded from the cold northern
winds by the Sea Alps and the northern Apennines. These very same elements
influence winter temperatures.
Diano Marina: A shore of intense beauty, sandy
beaches surrounded by a vegetation in between the exotic and the
Mediterranean, palm trees, agaves, maritime pines, olive trees, citrus
orchards, this is the gulf of Diano, a large inlet between cape Berta and
cape Cervo. Diano Marina is its barycenter, with its hotel
structures, the important bathing establishments and well patronized
nightclubs.
Divided in various towns, Diano San Pietro has its center around the
parish church, with its parvis surrounded by walls, which recalls the
defense system of the local populations against barbaric raids. Submitted to
the authority of Diano Castello, having, however, a better strategic
location, the church lost its function.
From Diano San Pietro, along the stream bearing the same name (power supply
for the numerous oil mills), the road leads to Diano Borganzo that consists
of several villages located on a steep slope. Here the nineteenth century
parish church stands out. At Roncagli, a smaller
agglomerate, the bridge of medieval origin over Rio San Pietro leads to the
versant of Virgili and towards Diano Arentino. |
